  • They do not like it when colors merge, there is no subject, very staged images, and silhouettes
  • They like unique captured moments, angles, and good graphic composition
  • This photographer is very repetitive, so I do not love this photographer’s portfolio. There was also many photos with bad lighting and composition, but some of the photos were very good action shots and seemed like good quality.

  • Stories
  • They don’t like boring and simple photos, weird angles, half faces, and blurry photos.
  • They like when people get in the middle of the action, humor, caught moments, and good detail shots.
  • I liked the really detailed shots because they are very clear and interesting. However, many of the photos were not appealing to the eye and drawing to an audience.

  • They do not like simple photos, images that look very staged, and photos that do not tell a story.
  • They like balance of color, humor, very detailed shots, and candid images.
  • I liked this photographer’s images a lot because the action shots were very detailed and had something interesting about them. I also liked how many of the photos were presented in black and white. However, the pictures at the end looked very staged and posed, which I did not like.

Winning Portfolio Critique

  1. The judges liked how the photographer captured all of the subject’s separate emotions, they noticed the photographer’s ability to capture things at lower angles, and they enjoy the creative story behind the images.
  2. I saw that the photographer shot images that were very in focus, and always had an interesting subjects. I liked the shapes and patterns shown in most of the images with a lot of people in it. If I were to point out a weakness, it would be repetition of the subjects, and some images looked a little bit staged.

Contest Recap Video

  1. They started off by eliminating the obvious photographers that would not win because of their poor photography skills. Then, they began critiquing the portfolios they liked, and pointed out reasons as to why they liked them. As they went through the portfolios, they stated the strengths and weaknesses of each photographer and their images. They tried not to be biased with picking the winner by the type of photography. Lastly, one of the judges stated who they thought should be the winner, and the judges 100% agreed.

Individual Images

  1. One image that I agreed with the judges on was a photo of a field goal post on a football field with a stadium light shining through it. The judges think that this image would be better with some subjects in the image, and if the photo was shot from a different angle. I think that the photo is not interesting enough, and it would be better with a crowd and a team on the field.

  1. One image that I disagreed with them on was a photo with a lady bending back as her tennis racket floats in the air. The judges stated that the image was beautiful, there is emotion in the photo, and it is very interesting. In contrast, I think that the image does not show emotion because you cannot see the subjects face, and the image is quite boring to me since there is no subject or emotion shown in the photo
