Opinion writing Part 2

                                                                Guns Laws

Throughout the entire United States, guns laws is a very controversial topic. Many people think that guns laws should be strict, and others think they should be loosely applied.

In my opinion, to protect more people around the world, we need to enforce more strict gun laws than we have today.

There have been 244 mass shootings in the United States during the year of 2017. This is an extremely large number, so there must be something that we can do to decrease that number.

In the united states, most states require a permit to possess a firearm, and they must be of a certain age. Despite these laws, Texas is an example of a state that definitely needs stricter gun laws. Anyone of any age can purchase a firearm, unless they have a felony. Other states are just like Texas, so the process of purchasing a gun is very simple and easy with little requirements.

I think that an age limit should be enforced in order to buy a gun. School shooters are mostly students that go there, so if there was a more strict way to check the age of owners, it would decrease shootings by at least a small amount.

For example, there was a shooting in Parkland Florida on February 14, 2018. The suspect responsible for the shooting was a 19 year old male named Nikolas Cruz. Crux walked onto the school with a firearm and a school shirt to blend in with students. This shooting ended up being one of the deadliest school shootings in US history.

Nearly 45 states allow the open carry of firearms, yet many states want the shootings to decrease. I think they should make it illegal in all states in the United States for one to openly carry a firearm. If so, people should be charged with a fee similar to the purpose of a speeding ticket.

For instance, Florida created a new gun law where licensed carriers are allowed to bring firearms into a variety of public places. A Georgia man brought an AR-15 rifle into an Atlanta airport legally, which I think makes people feel very unsafe and worried.

Believe it or not, some people are against the strict use of gun laws. Many people say that it will be harder for people to protect themselves from the negative things in the world with more strict gun laws.

In comparison, people claim that the gun laws are not what causes the large number of shootings, but it is the ownership of the firearms. In addition, criminals can always break the gun law very easily, so more strict gun laws would not prevent that in the aspect of some.

In contrast, people are going to break laws, and that is a given fact. However, it will be harder for many to break the laws if they are respected and protected correctly. Although many protect themselves using firearms and need tht sense of safety, they are many other weapons one can use, and people could invest in more high tech alarm systems.

I understand everything that the people on this side of the argument is saying, and I agree with some of the reasons, but they are mostly based on what could happen rather than what could not happen.

To decrease the amount of shootings happening today, we could have places where firearms could be stored when not in use. That way, someone can track the placement of guns. Also, there should be a GPS tracker that could be planted secretly in the firearm, and it could alert police or FBI if it comes near a public place where firearms should not be carried.

In conclusion, the firearm laws in the United States could be a lot more detailed and strict. Shootings will still happen and that is just something that we cannot one hundred percent destroyed, but the amount can definitely decrease which is a great goal to reach for.
