Composition 9/11

Rule of Thirds
I thought that this photo represented the rule of thirds very well because the twin towers are off center a little bit to the right of the image. I also think that the cloud of smoke going to the left adds more of a dimension of "off center", and is very appealing to the eye. An important element to this picture is the plane about to fly into the second plane, which is very important.
Framing
I chose this photo to represent framing because the hole in the wall/building creates a  jagged square shape. The object that is being framed is the firefighter climbing the ladder, so it is very simple since there is only one focus to the image. The frame around the image is very unique, but I think it makes the photo a lot better and appealing.
This image is very simple, and there are not many elements to it. First, the lines of the tower and the direction of the man are both vertical, so I think that is very pleasing to the eye. The man is the main/only focus of the image, yet it is more powerful than a lot of images. It shows the reality of what people did during 9/11 in order to attempt to save themselves or avoid a slow death.
Merging Lines
I chose this photo for merging lines, because most of the objects in this photo are the same color or shade of gray, and many of them merge. The ground and the sky look the same color from all of the smoke and the flying debris of the falling towers. The man and the woman break up the merging lines because of their clothing, and they also add emotion to the image.
Lines
This photo is a good representation of the theme "lines" because of the flag. The red and white strips of the flag lead you to one of the first responders to the right of the image. The face of the man looks very tired and devastated, but he is also very thankful that e got to save people whose lives were endangered. Lastly, the flag is a good object with lines in it to show patriotism and love for our country.
Balance
I chose this photo for balance because many elements in this picture are even. First, the three men form almost a triangle, and the second man is perfectly in the middle. Also the debris behind the men meet at a point in the center of the photo, which adds symmetry to the whole image. The firefighters are raising the flag after the towers collapsed, so this is one of the most touching photos from 9/11.
